AUGER BORING
Traditional open-cut utility excavation can be costly and time-consuming for contractors, especially in situations involving existing infrastructure like roadways, railroads, creeks and existing structures. Horizontal boring allows crews to bypass existing infrastructure, saving money and time . Horizontal auger boring, also referred to as jack-and-bore is a trenchless method to install steel casing from a launch pit or bore pit to a reception pit with soil excavation done via a rotating cutterhead driven by a series of augers inside the casing pipe. The excavated material is removed through the augers that is powered by the auger boring machine in the bore pit shaft.
GUIDED PILOT BORING
The Pilot Tube Method (PTM) is one of the most popular techniques available to an underground contractor. Pilot tubes are installed with a high degree of accuracy using a guidance system including a theodolite, camera, and LED target required for critical grade and centerline projects. Pilot tube guidance for auger boring equipment ensures line and grade accuracy prior to advancement of final product casing. The pilot tube method is defined as a multistage method of accurately installing a pipe to line and grade by use of a guided pilot tube followed by upsizing to install the final product pipe. The steel casing is connected to the already installed pilot tubes with an adaptor and will follow the path of the pilot for the length of the job until the exposer of the steel casing in the receiving pit .
